The recent amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure not only imposed new requirements for dealing with electronically stored information ("ESI") but also changed the technology used to handle that information.
So, what are the current technological tools available to help comply with these new rules? Here are 13 of them.
1. EMC Centera CAS -- customizable storage of ESI in non-deletable, non-alterable form.
2. CA Message Manager -- provides email management, archiving, retrieval, and search.
3. Kazeon Information Server IS 1200-ECS -- automates eDiscovery by indexing and identifying relevant documents and emails.
4. CommVault QiNetix Unified Data Management -- collects and indexes ESI for litigation holds.
5. Hitachi Data Systems HCAP -- stores and archives ESI.
6. Attenex Patterns E-Discovery Software -- standardizes eDiscovery processes; can be deployed as a standalone or managed service. (See my earlier post for details.)
7. Zantaz Media Restoration/Collection, First Discovery, and Introspect -- software tools for automating recovery and search of ESI, and for organizing and managing ESI.
8. Open Text LiveLink ECM -- software for capturing, managing, and archiving emails.
9. Hewlett-Packard StorageWorks RISS -- tool for records management and archiving of ESI with search capabilities.
- Hewlett-Packard StorageWorks RIMM -- archives emails.
10. Guidance Software EnCase Enterprise eDiscovery Suite -- complete eDiscovery solution that identifies, collects, and processes ESI.
11. Abrevity FileData Classifier -- software for classifying and managing ESI with customizable searches and optional module that provides features specific to eDiscovery and FRCP amendments.
12. Index Engines Enterprise Discovery Platform -- automates access to and retrieval of ESI, regardless of where it is stored; can also retrieve ESI directly from backup/archive tapes (without having to first restore ESI back to disk). (See my earlier post for details.)
13. Xiotech Virtual Partner 8 -- hosted information management system that provides customers direct access to their collected ESI online.
